Fall 2022 Community Update Video

Huu-ay-aht First Nations is proud to release our Fall 2022 Community Update Video showcasing Huu-ay-aht First Nations milestones of 2022. The video highlights the Kiix̣in National Historic Site Plaque Reveal, the Bamfield Main Road Surfacing Project, and the continued growth of Upper Anacla.

On September 20, 2022, Huu-ay-aht and Parks Canada celebrated the installation of a plaque at the Kiix̣in Village and Fortress. Haw̓iiḥ Councillor Jeff Cook (Yał luu a) and Chief Councillor Robert J. Dennis Sr. joined Kiix̣in tour guide and knowledge holder Wišqii as he opened the ceremony.

Through a partnership with Parks Canada, Huu-ay-aht First Nations will continue to share their culture and history with visitors with guided tours of the only known remaining First Nations Village on the west coast of southern B.C. through Kiix̣in Tours.

What is different about this is Huu-ay-aht is starting to design it’s economy. What do we need to do to make a strong economy

Chief Councillor Robert J. Dennis Sr.

The Bamfield Main Road Surfacing Project continues to progress with crush, resurfacing, and grading. The project is expected to be completed by April 2022. The safety of  travellers on Bamfield Main Road from Bamfield to Port Alberni has been important to Huu-ay-aht First Nations for generations and surfacing the road will help bring Huu-ay-aht community members home.

Uncle Spencer always said that the work we had done for the designation was something that his father, our grandpa, wanted to do but he didn’t know how to put it into words.

Stella Peters, citizen, Kiix̣in tour guide

Charlie Clappis shares how the community of Anacla has grown over the last five years, plans for the Huu-ay-aht First Nations Cultural Centre and considerations for the development of Anacla in the future.
