Huu-ay-aht First Nations have a proud history of triumphing over adversity and are one of only a handful of nations in British Columbia to have a modern treaty.

The Huu-ay-aht traditional territory is located in the Barclay Sound region on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Their motto, ‘Ancient Spirit, Modern Mind’, represents and respects their success in overcoming the impact of natural disasters, historic wars and colonization. The Huu-ay-aht people have found ways to thrive by maintaining an unwavering focus to promote self-government, treaty and economic development.

This short film provides a brief introduction to Huu-ay-aht culture, values, territory and people, and sets the stage for a deeper exploration into the challenges faced by a community determined to uphold its culture in the best interests of present and future generations.
