Bamfield Main Road Reconciliation Project

The Bamfield Main Road Reconciliation Project (BMRRP) started in 2020 with Huu-ay-aht and the Province sharing the vision of creating a safer route between Anacla, Bamfield, and Port Alberni. Today, both partners have made it a reality. Together, they have completed one substantial task. Check out this video following the completion of the BMRRP.

Bamfield Main is an 85-kilometre logging road is located on the traditional territory of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations that acts as a link between the communities of Anacla, Bamfield, and Port Alberni, B.C.

Huu-ay-aht First Nations has made upgrades to the Anacla and Bamfield Main Roads one of its top priorities. Below is information on the proposed upgrade of the Bamfield Main Road.

After several decades of work, Huu-ay-aht First Nations and the Province of B.C. announced they would work together to make significant safety improvements to the 85-kilometre logging road.

The announcement was made in September 2020 on the steps of the B.C. Legislature in Victoria.

The announcement outlined a partnership between the two parties, with the Province of British Columbia contributing $25.7 million and Huu-ay-aht First Nations the remaining $5 million. Huu-ay-aht First Nations is making history in British Columbia as it will be the first Indigenous community to lead a road infrastructure project of this size.

Huu-ay-aht First Nations is optimistic that the Bamfield Main Safety Improvements Project will create new opportunities for our Nation and the local communities.
