The fishers for Huu-ay-aht First Nations are out on the water and the first food fish distribution will take place on Friday.
Citizens are asked to check the schedule and make sure they come by to get their food fish. The first distribution will be sockeye to Port Alberni and halibut to Nanaimo and Parksville on Friday, July 8. Following that, Vancouver, Victoria and Duncan will receive halibut and Nanaimo and Parksville will receive sockeye on Tuesday, July 12. Please check the full schedule for dates, times, and locations.
The halibut will be processed and packaged as fillets, and each citizen will receive 16 pounds. The sockeye will be whole, with each citizen receiving 10 fish. Please bring something to transport it in, as none will be supplied at the distribution site.
If you cannot pick up your own fish, please fill out a food fish release form, available at https://huuayaht.org/forms-for-citizens/ . Exceptions will not be made under any circumstance.
