The Urban, Rural, and Northern (URN) Indigenous Housing Strategy is a multi-billion dollar Canadian federal initiative designed to address critical housing shortages and improve living standards for Indigenous peoples living off Treaty Settlement Lands or Reserve. Administered through a co-developed, “for-Indigenous, by-Indigenous” approach, the program funds the construction, repair, and revitalization of safe, affordable, and climate-resilient homes. By focusing on essential upgrades like mold remediation, energy efficiency, and structural safety, the URN program directly intersects with the “Healthy Homes” philosophy, treating secure housing as a foundational pillar of community health and wellness.
