Registration

Every citizen 18 and older attending the People’s Assembly must register so we can provide accommodations, meals, and travel support.  
 
IMPORTANT: 

  • Huu-ay-aht Government is only supporting Huu-ay-aht Citizens to attend the People’s Assembly. If you plan to bring non-citizens, it is at your own expense. Huu-ay-aht will be tracking to ensure fairness. 
  • Huu-ay-aht does its best to accommodate all Huu-ay-aht Citizens’ needs based on their registration information. However, we cannot always meet every request. We kindly ask Citizens to respect and be kind to the Huu-ay-aht Government Staff who are planning the People’s Assembly.  
  • If your plans change, please contact the Huu-ay-aht Government Office immediately, and no later than Wednesday, November 19, at 250-723-0100.  This is to avoid penalties as stated in the Attendance at the People’s Assembly Policy.

How to register:

  1. In person: Visit the Anacla or Port Alberni Government Office, and a staff member can assist in filling out the registration form 

Early bird prize: $100 cash prize 
The winner must attend the People’s Assembly and will receive their early bird prize cash following the People’s Assembly.  

Early bird registration deadline: Monday, September 21, 2026 
Final deadline to register and receive direct support regarding travel and accommodation: October 17, 2026 (Following this date, all travel and accommodation support will need to seek reimbursement after the People’s Assembly)

Citizen, Elder, Youth of the Year Nominations

Do you know an amazing Huu-ay-aht citizen and want to recognize them? 

Nominations should be based on excellence in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Nominee has had a positive impact in the community 
  • Nominee has demonstrated a personal commitment to the benefit of the community 
  • Has performed an outstanding achievement or act of heroism 
  • The community has benefited from this person’s involvement 
  • Has overcome significant personal adversity 
  • Has positive and inspiring personal attributes that serve to encourage others

How does travel and accommodation support work?

Assistance is available only to Huu-ay-aht Citizens, and you must complete the registration form before October 17 to receive direct support. If this is completed, a Huu-ay-aht Staff Member will contact you close to the Assembly date with the details of your travel and accommodation. If you register after October 17, you must coordinate your own travel and accommodations and seek reimbursement after the People’s Assembly.

How old do I need to be to register?

All citizens must be 18 to register independently for the People’s Assembly. Youth and Children 17 and younger must register under an eligible voting citizen if they plan to attend.

Is childminding provided?

Yes, but you must register in advance (no same-day registration). Parents/guardians are required to drop off and pick up  their child(ren) directly at their designated childcare sites:

  • Ages 2–5: ʔumʔiiqsu Child Care Centre
  • Ages: 6-13: Glenwood Centre

Same-day registration for childminding is not available

What happens if I register and can no longer attend?

Per the Attendance at the People’s Assembly Policy (Section 3), a citizen must notify the Huu-ay-aht Law Clerk by the cancellation deadline of Friday, October 16, if unable to attend for any reason. If medical or family emergencies arise closer to the date and you can no longer attend, please contact the Law Clerk.

Can I bring a non-citizen?

Yes, but all travel and accommodation costs are not the responsibility of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations Government.

Can I choose which hotel I stay in?

Huu-ay-aht does its best to accommodate all Huu-ay-aht Citizens’ needs based on their registration information. However, we cannot always meet every request. We kindly ask Citizens to respect and be kind to the Huu-ay-aht Government Staff who are planning the People’s Assembly.
