Vancouver Citizens! Sockeye Fish Distribution will be, Monday, July 8, 2024, from 5:30 to 7 P.M. at Vancouver Aboriginal Mother Center, 2019 Dundas St. Elder door-side delivery will be taking place all-day on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Nation hosts Community Engagement Sessions to open discussion on proposed LNG project
The Council of Ḥaw̓iiḥ and the Executive Council would like citizens to attend the upcoming Community Engagement Sessions in their area.
These meetings will mark the beginning of the next phase of community discussion about the proposed LNG project in Sarita Bay. In the coming months, Huu-ay-aht will be offering regular updates as Steelhead LNG and the Nation continue to explore the project. The Nation will work to engage the public in a number of ways, including meetings, Huu-ay-aht’s website and social media sites, gatherings and discussions with elders, youth, and families, printed material, and another film project.
The upcoming Community Engagement Sessions will take citizens back to basics on the project, and then it will move into more technical and up-to-date information on the project.
The Council of Ḥaw̓iiḥ and Executive Council members want to know your feelings, thoughts, concerns, hopes, and ideas and top priorities. This project will not move forward without input from citizens.
The Community Engagement Session will be at the following locations:
Anacla – June 13, 2016, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – House of Huu-ay-aht
Port Alberni – June 13, 2016, 5 to 8 p.m. – Hupacasath House of Gathering
Nanaimo – June 14, 2016, 5 to 8 p.m. – Oliver Woods Community Centre (6000 Oliver Road)
Victoria – June 20, 2016, 5 to 8 p.m. – Paul’s Motor Inn
Vancouver – June 22, 2016, 5 to 8 p.m. – Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre

Come show your support at tribunal in Vancouver
It is time for Huu-ay-aht Citizens and members of the public to rally together by attending the Specific Claims Tribunal of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations next week.
The tribunal is regarding the value of the compensation Canada owes Huu-ay-aht as a result of the way timber on the former Numukamis IR1 was sold to MacMillian Bloedel in the 1940s. The first phase of the hearing occurred in Anacla in November 2013. More legal submissions will occur in Anacla at the Huu-ay-aht government office on April 19 to 21, 2016.
Next week, February 8 to 12, the tribunal will be held at the Canadian Industrial Relations Board, 300 West Georgia Street, Suite 501, in Vancouver. On Monday, it will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, it will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. Huu-ay-aht citizens are encouraged to show their support.
On Monday, February 8, Huu-ay-aht experts will hit the stand. Elected Chief Robert J. Dennis Sr. will speak on Tuesday, February 9. Following that, it is time for the other side to take the stand. The Specific Claims Tribunal is a judicial body, like a court, that hears claims by First Nations against Canada regarding past wrongs.
For more information on this tribunal, see attached document (Tribunal hearing on timber claim). Once you are familiar with the case, come to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board next week to show your support.
Come to our Community Engagement Sessions
UPDATE: Victoria’s Engagement Session has been changed to today, December 18, 2015. They will be held at the Uptown Community Room in the Uptown mall, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and the meeting to follow.
Our Executive Council has identified Economic Development as a top priority for the Nation.
First thing in the new year, we are holding Community Engagement Sessions in Anacla, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Victoria and Vancouver.
This will be an opportunity to share with citizens the financial plan moving forward in the morning. They will also unveil the Nation’s Economic Development Report and Plan in the afternoon.
