Huu-ay-aht First Nations
invitation to attend the
Specific Claim Tribunal Hearing of the IR1 Timber Claim
at Huu-ay-aht Government House, Anacla, BC: November 12 – 14, 2013
All Huu-ay-aht citizens and members of the public are invited to attend the hearing before the Specific Claims Tribunal of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations claim against Canada regarding the historical logging of Numukamis IR1 timber.
WHAT: The Specific Claims Tribunal is a judicial body, like a court, that hears claims by First Nations against Canada regarding past wrongs, when no resolution to the claim has been reached through negotiations.
The HFN IR1 Timber Claim relates to logging that took place on IR1 between 1948 and 1969. The HFN claims that Canada breached its fiduciary obligations relating to the logging and that compensation is owing to Huu-ay-aht.
The hearing will be similar to a trial in court and will involve presentations by legal counsel and testimony of witnesses – one Huu-ay-aht witness and one specialist in timber valuations – before a judge.
WHERE: Huu-ay-aht Government House, Anacla, BC
WHEN: 9:30am – 4:00pm, November 12 – 14, 2013 (Tuesday –Thursday)
