How to Apply for a Huu-ay-aht Harvest Card 

The Harvest Card gives Huu-ay-aht Citizens the right to harvest traditional foods—like fish, shellfish, plants and game—for personal and family use, under Maa-nulth Treaty rights. 

Follow these simple steps to apply: 

 Step 1: Get a Harvest Card Application Form 

In person at the Huu-ay-aht Government Office in Anacla or Port Alberni.

Step 2: Fill Out the Form 

Provide your name, contact details, and information about the harvesting you wish to do. Huu-ay-aht government staff are happy to assist you with this process. 

You will be asked for a current photo of yourself, or HFN staff can take a photo of you. 

Step 3: Return the Form 

Submit your completed application: 

  • In person at Port Alberni or Anacla Government Office  
  • By email to harvest@huuayaht.org 
  • For Hunters: Core and PAL cards to be presented at this time 

Step 4: Wait for Confirmation 

The Lands and Natural Resources team will begin processing your application and contact you when your card is ready to be picked up. The average processing time is 1 -5 business days. 

Step 5: Meet with the Lands Team 

When you receive your Harvest Card, the Lands and Natural Resources team will: 

  • Review Maa-nulth harvesting rights with you 
  • Provide you a Huu-ay-aht Harvest Flag (to fly while fishing) 
  • Give you printed guidelines and information for your reference. 
  • Provide you with catch/harvest reporting log book.
