Huu-ay-aht First Nations has made upgrades to the Anacla/Bamfield road one of its top priorities. Below is information on the proposed upgrade of the Port Alberni to Anacla/Bamfield Road.

After several decades of work, Huu-ay-aht First Nations and the Province of B.C. announced they would work together to make significant safety improvements to the 85-kilometre logging road.

The announcement was made in September 2020 on the steps of the B.C. Legislature in Victoria.

The announcement outlined a partnership between the two parties, with Province of British Columbia contributing $25.7 million and Huu-ay-aht First Nations the remaining $5 million. Huu-ay-aht First Nations is making history in British Columbia as it will be the first Indigenous community to lead a road infrastructure project of this size.

Huu-ay-aht First Nations is optimistic that the Bamfield Main Safety Improvements Project will create new opportunities for our Nation and the local communities.
