November Community Engagement Sessions kick off tonight

Citizens are invited to participate in an informative round of Community Engagement Sessions, beginning in Anacla on November 7. The engagement sessions will take place in five communities, also including Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Vancouver and Victoria.

The main topic for this round of engagement sessions will be a discussion on self-reliance for the Nation.

Self-reliance is deeply ingrained in the Huu-ay-aht First Nations – its values and principles. It is one of the reasons for entering and implementing the Maa-nulth Treaty, including its Constitution and Legislation, under which it governs itself as a self-governing treaty First Nation. But in order to achieve self-reliance the Nation must make a number of decisions. This conversation will begin at this month’s community engagements.

The sessions will also offer an opportunity for Executive Council to present an update to citizens on the LNG project.

The sessions begin tonight at the Anacla Government Office. Each session starts at 5 p.m. with a shared meal and runs until 8 p.m. Child minding is available in Port Alberni. The remaining sessions are:

Port Alberni – November 8, House of Gathering;
Vancouver – November 9, Aboriginal Mother Centre;
Victoria – November 23, Comfort Inn and Suites; and
Nanaimo – November 27, The Coast Bastion.
