Huu-ay-aht nominated for Chamber Award

It has been almost a year since the Port Alberni Government Office relocated to its Adelaide location, and now that move has attracted some attention in the local business community.

Huu-ay-aht First Nations has been nominated for an Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award. The nomination comes for the Business Investment category for the effort the Nation put into improving a large property in the Johnston business corridor in order to relocate the Port Alberni Government Office.

Huu-ay-aht is one of three nominees for this category, along with Mahoe Properties Ltd. and Pot Luck Ceramics. The remaining finalists are as follows:

Rising Star: Char’s Landing, Steampunk Café, Vancouver Island Limousine

Social Media: Young Professionals of the Alberni Valley, Alberni Thrive, Great Central Social Co.

Tourism and Hospitality: Vancouver Island Soaring, West Coast Edge ATV, Blue Marlin Inn

Business Excellence: Hertel Meats, DBA Silencing, Dave Koszegi Real Estate Corporation

Spirit of Music: Sandy Bouleau, Pat Miller – Timbre! Choir

Customer Service: Trends Hair Design, Clydesdale Automotive, Alberni District Co-op

Youth of the Year: Theresa Gingras, Oliver Witham, Kayla Caddy

Welcoming Workplace: The Starboard Grill, Breakers Marine, Boomerang’s Café

Green: Haven Living, Green Earth Woodworks, The PLACE

Winners will be announced on April 22, 2016 at a gala event hosted by the Chamber.
