For the Peoples’ Assembly to take place, there must be 95 voting citizens (20% of voters) in attendance between the two locations in Burnaby and Port Alberni.  Please spread the word to your family and friends who are Huu-ay-aht citizens and encourage them and assist them to get to the meeting.  This is a day to proudly celebrate self government, and to take on your responsibilities as a Huu-ay-aht citizen.

Today the Huu-ay-aht children from the Bamfield Community School, who will be opening our day on Saturday, invite you to Peoples’ Assembly.  They have been working hard, with the support of our Huu-ay-aht Education Worker Maggie Peters and Councillor Charlie Clappis, on their performance.  They won’t be voting citizens for another decade or more, but they are an important part of our Peoples’ Assembly as our future voters and leaders and are starting to learn about the role of government in their lives.  Please bring your children to the Peoples’ Assembly–whether they live on Treaty Settlement Lands or are living away from home–and introduce them to their legacy as Huu-ay-aht citizens.
