When You're Ready, it's This Easy...

If you or someone that you care about is ready to seek treatment for drug or alcohol dependency, there is a simple and free process on the path to recovery.

Always, the very first thing to do is see an Alcohol and Drug Counsellor.

  • If you live in Anacla, a clinical counsellor contracted by NTC visits weekly and he will support you through the next steps.

  • If you are away from home, search online or in the Yellow Pages under “Counsellors” for local contacts.

  • In the Alberni Valley, you can call Adult Mental Health and Addiction Services (250.731.1311), or contact Alberni Community and Women’s Services (250.724.7111) for direction.

  • Note that in the Alberni Valley there are services offered directly to young people through Alberni Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Services (ADAPS, 250.724.6166).

Your counsellor will help you determine what the next steps that are appropriate for YOU might be.

They will help you fill in any necessary forms, and assist with deciding upon a treatment centre, if that is what you would like to do.

There are a number of treatment centres in BC which offer a focus on First Nations’ culture, like the Round Lake Treatment Centre in Armstrong, the Tsow-tun Le Lum Treatment Centre in Lantzville, or the Namgis Treatment Centre in Alert Bay.

If you have any questions or would like some more detailed information, contact Coral Johnson at the HFN Health Clinic (250.728.2021) or the Nuu-chah-nulth Community & Human Services Non-Insured Mental Health Program (250.724.5757 or 1.888.407.4888).

The Huu-ay-aht First Nations want to celebrate healthy families and healthy individuals; know that the community supports every member in their journey towards wellness.
